Parents Involvement

All parents who are interested in finding out what’s happening at school are encouraged to attend the Parent Meetings in the School Auditorium. Check the Calendar for meeting dates and times.

Fairburn Youth Association (FYA)

FYA, Fairburn Elementary School’s booster club, raises funds to provide Fairburn students with extra services and enrichment programs that are otherwise not provided for in the school’s operating budget. FYA is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation, which allows your donation to be tax-deductible.

Through the FYA Annual Pledge Drive (formerly known as Fairshare), every family is asked to give a tax deductible contribution.  FYA’s Annual Pledge Drive is the main fundraising effort for the school. Our school consistently ranks as one of the top ten schools in the LAUSD. We are a public school on a par academically with many of the finest private schools in Los Angeles. Your contribution to FYA’s Annual Pledge Drive provides money which goes directly to essential services that enrich your child’s academic environment. If you haven’t contributed to the FYA Pledge Drive yet, you can do so online via AcceptPay or by printing out our Pledge Form (insert link) and turning in your contribution to the FYA box in the school office.  Your contribution will help keep Fairburn one of the best schools in Los Angeles.

Fairburn Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

The PTA is the largest grass-roots child advocacy organization in the world.  It promotes the education, health and welfare of children. The CA State PTA was instrumental in the successful lobbying to reduce class size of grades K –3 to 20 children, and to provide school breakfasts. The Fairburn PTA is responsible for events such as the Kindergarten Welcome, Back to School Picnic, International Potluck Dinner, Teachers’ Appreciation Luncheon, Founders’ Day Luncheon, Toys for Tots Charity Drive, and Reflections Art Recognition Program. PTA’s Room Parent group provides volunteers for school activities.

Leadership Committee

The Leadership Committee is a board composed of faculty, parents and the principal, who share in the decision making and management processes at Fairburn. Specific areas of concern include: scheduling of school activities, guidelines for the use of school equipment, and some budgetary matters. This important council assists in the administration of the school.  Parent and faculty representatives are elected in the Fall.

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

ELAC works to ensure that the needs of students with limited English are being met.  This committee advises staff on English Language Development programs and services. It is composed of the Principal or Asst. Principal, key teachers, and a group of elected parents of children who are in the process of learning English. Parents representing the various language groups at Fairburn are encouraged to participate in this committee. ELAC has arranged for twice weekly, free English language adult school classes in the school library for parents and other members of the community. Check in the office for “Oasis Adult School” catalogs for information about how to register.

School Site Council

The Council is composed of elected parents, teachers and school personnel, who serve for a two year term.  Meetings are held monthly and are open to all parents and other community members. The SSC reviews the ongoing implementation of the Site Action Plan, which includes the Student Performance Goals, and instructional activities related to them. The SSC works with other parent groups at school. They work out an annual budget for state school improvement funds to support school-developed instructional programs.
